Established in 1990, Mount Maunganui Language Centre is a private English language school that has been registered by NZQA and is accredited as a Category 1 school.  Full member of English New Zealand. Authorised TOEIC Testing centre.

LOCATION

The school is located right in the centre of a beach resort of Mount Maunganui on the east coast of New Zealand. Known as a surfing mecca, the town boasts the best surf beaches in the country. It has a relaxed atmosphere of a resort town by the sea with an array of nice cafes and restaurants, shops and leisurely water activities, including big game fishing, dolphin watching or a swim in a heated salt water pool, to name just a few.

Mount Maunganui Language Centre is a small school with student numbers ranging between 35 in winter and 50 in summer. 

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Mount Maunganui Language Centre has comfortable airy classrooms and a generous outdoor garden courtyard. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere of the resort town makes studying pleasant and fun with lots of opportunities to practice English with local people. All teachers are native speakers of English, have excellent qualifications and experience living in another country. They understand the challenges that students face when learning a different language and are always prepared to help. The school provides lots of opportunities to students to continue learning outside the classroom by offering an exciting social programme allowing students to play sports, socialize and have fun together.

What do you like about living in Mount Maunganui? - I like that it’s a safe and quiet city, but it is an interesting place to live. I can ride my bike everywhere and the people are very nice and polite.

What is your favourite thing about studying at MMLC? - MMLC is a friendly school, and the teachers are very accessible. The school is near the city centre, several restaurants and the beaches—it is very well located.
What do you like about living in Mount Maunganui? - Mount Maunganui is a beauful city, peaceful and quiet. If you like to play and practice sports, it is a really good city. I like to climb up ‘The Mount’ and have an incredible view of the city. Everything is nearby and I can ride my bike.

What do you like about your private flat? - I like staying in a private flat because I can have my space, I can study, read a book or watch a  film in peace. I think it is very important to have your own place.
What part of your classes do you enjoy the most? - I enjoy morning class because I can learn a lot of grammar and I can practice with other students.

What do you like about living in Mount Maunganui? - I like to walk along the beach, and breathe fresh air and look at the wide clean sky. I like to eat cheaper and fresher avocados than in Korea. I also like to learn about other cultures.

What do you like about your homestay? - Having lovely meals every night, and nice homestay mother and sister.

What is your favourite thing about studying at MMLC?  - We can meet a lot of students from different countries around the world, and can better understand their point of views, cultures and customs.
What do you like about living in Mount Maunganui? - It is a beautiful place. I love the beach, the beautiful people and the landscapes. I like the idea that we can walk everywhere without shoes, it feels like freedom (nobody criticises you).

What do you like about your private flat? - We have our own space but at the same time we are learning about the real world and we talk with our flatmates and it’s really good because we can practise and learn from them. They have a cat and a dog and we help our flatmates to take care of them.
What part of your classes do you enjoy the most? - I like all kinds of classes but I prefer the ones that are more interactive, like last week we had flavours and tastes class and the teacher brought us some different foods to help us learn how to describe them.
